About Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is the most ancient of all classical dance forms of India. It is an artistic yoga for revealing the spiritual through the corporeal. It is a blend of "Nritta" (the rhythmic movement of the body), "Nrithya" (the combination of rhythm with expression through eyes, hands, and facial movements), and "Natya" (the dramatic element).

The main features of Bharatanatyam are "Abhinaya" (expression), "Rasa" (emotion), and "Mudras" (hand gestures).

All dances are structured around "Nava Rasas," the common emotions of happiness, anger, disgust, fear, sorrow, courage, compassion, wonder and serenity.

The dance is accompanied by the classical Carnatic music.
